Genomic diversity and characterization of Listeria monocytogenes from dry-cured ham processing plants

Genomic diversity of Listeria monocytogenes isolates from the deboning and slicing areas three dry-cured ham processing plants was analysed. L. detected in 58 out 491 samples environment equipment surfaces, all area, with differences prevalence among facilities. The most frequent PCR-serogroup IIa (74.1%) followed by IIb IIc, only one isolate serogroup IVb. Twenty different pulsotypes 11 sequence types (STs) grouped into 10 clonal complexes (CCs) were determined. ST121 (CC121) ST9 (CC9) abundant. Premature stop codons (PMSC6 PMSC19) associated attenuated virulence found inlA 7 12 selected strains. CC121 strains strong biofilm formers some harboured transposon Tn6188, related increased tolerance to quaternary ammonium compounds. clones considered hypovirulent resulted predominant areas. structure potential could help establish adequate control measures cleaning protocols for comprehensive elimination pathogen environment.
